darnell is one of the older names found in broad ripple. a family..Fred and ruby Darnell moved there in 1914, 3 sons and 4 dtrs lived there until after ww 2 on main street. starting out 6372 guilford , where my grand father, fred darnell lived and was the first ice man in ripple on 64 th next to the old bowling alley, and borky's. back when the broad ripple high school base ball playing field was where the chevrolet is dealer is now standing. i remember many things of broad ripple as a child , going to school 80 and BRHS.
the trestle at college
the american legion fish fry
lobraicos drug store ( we affectionately called "mikes")
vogue theatre
billy creek
( i delivered the first SUNDAY
times newspaper ever to the community)
the jail in the fire house
the dam in white river
riding the merry go round at the park
on and on and on.....what a great place to grow up as a child circa 1939.
